Why students choose Denmark

Course projects and group work can suit students who enjoy solving applied problems. Compare a university’s curriculum and industry projects before choosing.

English-taught master’s courses offer routes into engineering, computing and life sciences. English undergraduate availability is more limited and institution-specific.

Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense offer different academic and city experiences. Plan for substantial living costs and build Danish skills for a wider job search.

Intakes & start dates

August/September is a common start. Selected courses also start in January/February, including some Aarhus master’s programmes. Confirm the specific intake and non-EU deadline; neither a spring start nor English teaching is available on every degree.

Start dates vary by programme.

Tuition & living costs

Undergraduate tuition · EUR €6,000–€16,000 non-EU national range / year
Typical fee range 2026 national guidance
Postgraduate tuition · EUR €6,000–€16,000 non-EU national range / year
Typical fee range 2026 national guidance
What these tuition figures coverNon-EU/EEA students typically pay EUR 6,000–16,000 per year for bachelor’s or master’s study. The published country guide provides a shared range, not separate national degree averages. Exemptions depend on citizenship or residence; invoices may be in Danish kroner.
Typical living reference / month · EUR €1,000–€1,700 Housing and daily expenses depend on the city and your choices.

The same Commission profile gives about EUR 1,000–1,700 monthly. Copenhagen housing can be especially expensive. Use a current accommodation offer for your budget; daily spending is in Danish kroner (DKK).

Part-time work & careers

90 hours / month · September–May

A student permit for a state-approved higher-education programme normally permits 90 hours per calendar month from September to May, and full-time work in June, July and August. Non-state-approved programmes have different rules: applications from 2 May 2025 generally bring no work right, subject to specified exceptions. Check the approval status and your permit.

After your degree

For applications made on or after 1 October 2026, state-approved degrees below PhD generally lead to a six-month or one-year job-seeking permit, depending on the qualification. Earlier applications generally follow the six-month or three-year framework; PhD graduates generally retain three years. The study work limit continues during job seeking unless an additional unrestricted work permit is granted.
