Why students choose Hungary

Universities offer English-language degrees across business, computing, engineering and health fields. Clinical courses need a separate fee and recognition check.

Budapest, Szeged and Debrecen give students different campus and housing choices. A smaller city does not remove the need for a realistic monthly budget.

The Stipendium Hungaricum scheme offers funded routes for eligible applicants through participating sending partners. Competition, country eligibility and course availability apply.

What these tuition figures coverThe national study agency publishes one annual EUR 1,500–7,000 band covering BA/BSc and MA/MSc courses. It is a cross-level range, not separate UG and PG averages. General medicine is listed at EUR 12,000–16,000 annually. The currently published chart is labelled 2024 in its asset filename, so it should be described as the available national guide rather than a new 2026 price survey. Institutions set their own course fees.
Typical living reference / month · EUR €500–€600 Housing and daily expenses depend on the city and your choices.

The European Commission's May 2026 national guide estimates EUR 500–600 monthly for accommodation, food and other expenses. This broad guide is below some private-rental city budgets; compare actual housing in Budapest and your university city. Day-to-day spending is in HUF.

Part-time work & careers

Up to 30 hours / week in term

Third-country holders of the relevant study residence permit or student mobility documents can work up to 30 hours weekly during the study period. Outside it, full-time employment is limited to 90 days in a year. Confirm your residence status and employer obligations before starting.

After your degree

Eligible graduates with a valid study permit can apply for a job-search or business-starting residence permit for up to nine months. It cannot be extended. The intended work or business must suit the completed qualification; a later work route has its own requirements.
